Community Guidelines
Last updated: 20th July 2026
Community is the part of ArabyBuddy where you can find friends by username and cheer each other on as you learn. These guidelines explain what that means and how to stay safe. They're short on purpose — please read them.
What Community is
Community lets you find other learners by submitting a username search. It shows a small set of matching people who chose to join Community — it is not an open directory or endless feed. If someone accepts your friend request, you can open each other's learning profiles and compare rank, stars, leaderboard position, XP, streak, words learned, linguistic skills, collected items, and a daily learning-activity calendar. It does not show lesson content, answers, exact times, timezone, messages, or a "last seen" timestamp. It's there to make learning Arabic feel a little less lonely.
Be kind
No bullying, harassment, or unwanted contact. If someone asks you to stop messaging them or sending them requests, stop. Treat other learners the way you'd want to be treated.
Be yourself
Don't pretend to be someone else. That includes impersonating another real person, ArabyBuddy staff, or using a username that makes you sound "official" (like support or admin) when you're not.
Keep it appropriate
Usernames must be family-friendly in any language — no offensive, sexual, hateful, or violent words or references, and no spam. This applies everywhere, not just in English.
Your controls
You're always in control of who you connect with:
- Decline — say no to a friend request without sending any notification to the requester.
- Unfriend — end a friendship at any time; the other person immediately stops seeing your shared profile and activity calendar, and you stop seeing theirs.
- Block — instantly and mutually remove someone from your friends, cancel any pending request between you, and stop them from contacting you again.
- Report — flag a user for us to review, by picking a reason from a short list.
- Hide your profile — turn off Community visibility any time in Account settings. Pending requests are cancelled; friendships you've already accepted are kept (just hidden) and come back automatically if you rejoin later.
What we do
We review reports. Depending on what we find, we may rename, hide, or suspend an account that breaks these guidelines. We take repeated or serious violations seriously.
How to get help
The fastest way to deal with a problem is the in-app Report button — it goes straight to our safety review queue. If you want to appeal a decision, or you can't use the app to report something, use our contact form's "Safety, reports & appeals" topic. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, please contact your local emergency services — we're not able to respond quickly enough for urgent, real-world safety concerns.
